the minnie mouse dress is back in rotation. [it was retired for a bit]

ma girlies-

it's been so fun watching you develop a relationship with each other.
most days your interactions involve kate yelling 'mom! evie's ruining my stuff!!'
but some days you two play together really well-
this usually means you're destroying something or making a huge mess but hey! it's quiet so i'll take what i can get.

can't wait to see you grow up and [hopefully] turn into good friends.
after you've gone through the 'sharing-a-room, hate-each-other, one-of-you-sleeps-in-the-bathtub' phase.

oh how excited i am for that time in our lives.
[sarcasm. in case you couldn't tell]

pool time

i still maintain it's too cold for the big pool.
so while we wait for it to warm up just a bit more,
we've busted out the kiddie pool.

and let me tell you-
a tiny kiddie pool is all that's needed somedays.
just look at evie's face!
the kid loved it.

bedtime is the most favorite time.

bedtime means 'one-two-three' and then a gentle toss into the crib followed by lots of giggles.
then there's a bottle to drink and one last snuggle to have.
off goes the light and on goes the fan and the door shuts quietly.
one down, one to go.

why is bedtime the sweetest and yet the most awful?
nothing sounds more dreamy than moms and dads snuggled in bed with their little kidlets,
reading stories, sharing giggles and enjoying the quiet time.

but the reality is not so picture-perfect.
it's the end of the day, everyone's tired.

there's a lot of:
'pick up those toys, i'm not going to ask again'
and
'go brush your teeth. you know the routine. it's the same every night'
and
'kate, for the love! quit putting your princess dress back on!'

but then the pj's get put on, the teeth get brushed and we gather for our little family prayer.
and then some of that dreaminess drifts in.
we bow our heads and listen to kate's simple prayer.
....'thank thee that mommy and daddy could play with me. thank thee that evelyn could poop and feel better. please bless to sleep well'....

and then i read one book and jank tells one story and there's kisses and hugs and  'i love you's'.
off goes the light and on goes the fan and the door shuts quietly.

photobombed

miss kate:

i was attempting to take a picture of little evie rue the other day when BAM out of nowhere,
you appeared and photobombed every stinking picture.
it's a good thing i think you're so adorable because i could see how a mother who is tired and hungry would think to herself 'grrrrrrr. you're ridiculously annoying sometimes'.

thankfully your mother would never think these types of thoughts.
your mother is always well rested and never cranky so you just carry on with your photobombing.

ps. i always swore i wouldn't dress my kids in princess crap..... this is me eating my words. happens to the best of us.

the one thing i really wanted and never got... a grilled cheese on sourdough.

dear nurses and docs of YRMC-

thanks for taking good care of me and my little one during our 3 day stay.
we were happy to have you and for the most part it was a great experience.
[my last nurse was a little sketchy- she buckled evelyn into the car seat improperly. tsk tsk. and much to brandon's embarrassment, i informed her that she didn't do it right]
we were a little nervous about our stay since YRMC isn't known for it's great patient care but everything went well and by friday afternoon we felt prepared to go home.

a few things i want to thank you for:

1. my morphine pump. loved that thing!! they took it away far too quickly for my liking.
2. allowing me to keep my catheter in for a few extra hours so i didn't have to stand up and walk right away. but we couldn't put off the inevitable forever and yowza did it hurt to stand up after that surgery. ugh.
3. the volunteer who came to my room and gave me a foot massage. who does that?? and can they come to my house??
4. the adjustable hospital bed. this was the only reason i wanted to stay another night in the hospital. well, that and the lovely morphine. but we've already covered that.

so thanks and such.
your hard work was appreciated.

and now some pics of me on drugs:

and some pics of jancer making my heart melt:

love me a man who can burp a baby.
