snow!

dear utah-

you sure don't disappoint.
thanks for the dumping of snow.
we had a blast playing with family in the snow.
[and stealing awesome wolf hats from cousins]

it's safe to say we are warm weather people,
but you can't deny that fluffy, white snow is beautiful.
thanks again.

another year older

miss kate:

i hope you inherited your father's memory.
he can recall all sorts of information and it comes in quite handy
[unless we're having an argument and then it's just annoying]

but just in case you inherited my awful memory and can never recall your second birthday,
i'll recap today for you--

you received three phone calls, four text messages and one card.
i let you drink as much milk as you wanted and by bedtime i had refilled your sippy 6 times.
you got to play with your favorite person in the whole world- lizamagoos!
you guys fed the ducks and geese, found sticks and played on the slides.

running with sticks is safe and awesome

you had mcdonald's for dinner.
you barely ate your food because you were full of milk [your dad ate your nuggets. he thanks you]
i made you a chocolate cake stuffed with chocolate mouse and raspberry filling.
you licked the whipped cream off the top, smashed the rest and didn't even try a bite.
you blew out your candle on the first try [all that bubble-blowing came in handy]
we applauded your candle-blowing abilities like you had just discovered electricity.

we're still working on smiling for the camera. that little girl is a stubborn one.

you demanded extra hugs after you were tucked in and we joyfully complied.
tonight, just like every night, you yelled 'NIGH-NIGH' as we walked out of your room.
this always makes us laugh.

miss kate, we love your guts.
thanks for changing our lives.

love,
your mama and daddy

ps. for your birthday we got you a portable dvd player that mounts to the headrest in my car. we installed it a week ago and you now love 'going out'. i'm pretty sure it's the best thing we've ever bought you. i should add that it was your dad's idea so we have him to thank for our now peaceful car rides. thanks jank!

easter sunday

many thanks to all who made our easter a great one

i've never seen miss kate so happy.
she was outside for the majority of the day.
climbing, running, sliding, finding eggs filled with m&m's,
and the best part- hijacking the pint-sized four wheeler and cruising around g+g's yard.

a special thank you to the weather for a beautifully sunny day.
sun, family and good food.
it doesn't get better than that.

to grandma's house we go

dear interstate-15:

two things are a guarantee when we drive on you for longer than 30 min--

1. i will become very irritated with the utah drivers that drive the speed limit in the far left lane. hello! i would like to go 80 mph, kindly move over or i will tailgate you ruthlessly. i also may honk my horn at you [this i do sparingly since it makes jank nervous that someone will become enraged at my proper use of the car horn and kill me. silly mr jank]

2. jank and miss kate will fall asleep leaving me to ponder the cosmos [but mostly i think about the internet and how glorious it is]

thanks for giving me time to think deep thoughts.
also thanks for the car pool lane.

grateful for the quiet time,
mrs jank

ps. i LOVE when your speed limit changes to 75 [but please make the signs bigger because those other idiot drivers still think they have to go 65. not good for my road rage...]

in a galaxy far, far away...

dear aliens that stole my child:

katers full of light and love

thanks for returning my baby to me.
i'm happy to report she is doing well.
i hope you're enjoying the devil-child i swapped you for.
personally, i feel that i got the better deal.
but i'm going to keep my mouth shut about that.

i'm sure you enjoyed the few weeks you had with my baby.
she probably played quietly by herself,  taking all your space shoes and hiding them all over the spaceship
she probably ate your space food without complaint.
and she probably gave you high-fives and kisses and hugs.
and she probably played nicely with other kids.

the demonic toddler i was in charge of is probably throwing punches and screaming because you don't get 'elmo' in outer space.
does she cry so hard she throws up when you buckle her into her intergalactic car seat?
does she throw every last morsel of food on the ground and refuse to eat?
does she claw/bite/shove the martian kids when they try to play with her?
oh? she does? well, that's just too bad.
a deal's a deal.
you're stuck with her.

martian clone of katers. filled with darkness and anger

i'm not trading my baby for devil-child ever again.
but katers is hard to resist so i'm sure you'll return to planet earth to snatch my kiddo up again.
maybe you could give me an advance warning next time?
maybe something like turning the sky neon pink the day before so i could stock up on snuggles.
and then i could mentally prepare for the devil-child's return because this time you caught me by surprise and i really didn't appreciate it. (neither did jank, my family, or my coworkers)

celebrating kater's return to planet earth.
(also celebrating jaiden skye's blessing day)

live long and prosper alien kidnappers.
go bug another planet.

a house guest

dear new tooth in kate's lower gums:

welcome!! we're so very glad you decided to FINALLY show up. it took you a little longer than expected and the delay almost killed us. but sure enough, you appeared.
you're timing is impeccable- you're just in time for jank's 3 week break from school. yahoooo

now, a few rules for the duration of your time with us:

  1. you must stay awhile. it was a lot of work preparing for you and you owe us at least 6 years.
  2. you must do a good job. so be sharp and help kate bite through quesadillas so we can stop the annoying task of tearing them into small pieces for her.
  3. it would be nice if you stayed bright and white. no one likes a yellow tooth.

again, thanks for coming

sincerely,
the jancers
